question on dif engine years...

Im thinking of buying a 2000 gts and it has a new engine in it from a 2004 vibe gt.... i know how some years have a 7500 rpm redline and others have a 8400 rpm redline..... so would this engine mechanically be able to handle 8400 rpms like a 2004 celica gts?

wondering this mianly because i would get new gauges and adjust the redline to 8400 instead of the indicated 7500 rpm redline

The engines are exactly the same mechanically, the redline and fuel cut varies from year to year because of complaints from people that flubbed a shift and bent valves. The limiter is at 8400 on the 2000 GT-S, the 7800 rpm redline on the tach is not where the fuel will cut.

There shouldn't be any problems with revving to 8400 rpm, the engines are the same. When the new engine was put in I'd guess they reused the cable mechanism, assuming the Vibe used a drive by wire system instead... however, as far as I'm concerned it's always better to have a cable actuated throttle.

...I'd leave junior at home when you're testing out that redline

funny thing is shes a speed demon just like me she takes after her daddy... but yeah ill have to get used to clutching it on my own time ... its been two years cince ive driven a stick and im jumping into a car that has a upgraded racing tranny and clutch lol...... its certianly beefy...... it was fun to drive though, the guy let me go through gears 1-4 and it landed in lift every time

EDIT: i think the tranny is a close ratio 6 speed but i think 5th and 6th are smaller than the stock 6speed.... wheres idle in 6th supposed to be at?

I can't exactly tell you how fast I'd be going if I was idling in 6th, but I typically cruise around 70 and it sits around 3000-3500 rpm... and I can get 38 mpg there, too.

As for lift... lets just say I've chirped my tires a few times shifting into second...

Coming over from my 5 spd. Corolla was a little awkward for me at first, mostly that shift into reverse, but the Celica also has a much firmer shifter than most other manuals I've driven.
