rubber silicone

i had to drill a hoe about the size of a penny but little bit smaller behind the rear quarter under the right back tire to do some dent work. so i put a plastic plug in and seal it with those brush on wet silicone rubber maker. my question is are those tough enough to handle the wisconsin snow weather? i hope so... because i don't want snow to get into the hoe and rust out that panel.

I think the silicone sealant is a good idea to hold your plug in place and keep it water tight, but I think the silicone is too soft to hold up long in Wisconsin winter driving (sand/salt being thrown around at highway speeds).

I would suggest you visit a body shop and ask them what kind of material you can apply in the wheel well (assuming this is the area you put the plug into) to coat over the silicone/plug patch area to give the outside surface some better durability. It may be tough to get something hard to stick to soft silicone, but I think the body shop would have a good recommendation for you.

You can bondo it.
Polyurethane for home. Check out home depot or other building supply store. Get exterior one that adhere to everything and stay soft.
You should cover all bare metal with paint or rust inhibitor first. Even inside the penal.

i wouldn't want to bondo it either. it's only about the size of a dime. i'm thinking about trying the permatex black silicone adhesive sealant. i need some thing that will harden up after it's dried.

Silicone stay soft after it dry. You can JB Weld if you want it hard.

I wouldn't trust the silicone to hold up in the winter

Try a fibreglass repair kit.
The resin bonds to the metal panel and the fibreglass provides strength.
