grounding kit

anyone know the best and most efficient way to ground your car? when i actually got my car there was still a wire hanging from some part that was connected to my battery so i just kinda screwed it onto a piece of metal.. but i heard the better your car was grounded it could actually improve the way your car runs and stuff. anyone do anything special?

Believe or not there is a thread on this subject, but I can not remember where I saw it....or if it was in this forum. This is true, though. I had some strange problems with a Probe I used to own, and after we upgraded the tranny, we used copper wire and contacts to reground the engine, and everything seemed to function better.

Talking I am in the middle of my mod.

I read the camry forum's thread. Good crap.. So good the next day I bought 4 guage copper wire and connectors and a 4 port gold plated battery connector and all that stuff cost $23.00 usd and it was worth it. Car functions better. I ran 2 cables to replace the oem ones. I was going to run 2 more but I thought asking a girl to prom is a better Idea. I will give you the run down on this mod in about 2 days, after I put the next 2 up.

Arrow The project

materials:
4 guage wire at least 10ft copper wire
3-4 4 guage terminals
1 4 port battery connecter (24k gold plated brass one $7.50usd)
1 metric 5/16 nut (for altenator connection
plastic cable ties

tools:
Bolt cutters for cutting the 4 guage. or big wire cutters
big crimper if have access to.
some allen wrenches
some sockets

O.k here we go.

This shows the entire wire setup the yellow terminals are the destination. (if you look under the distributer you can see a slight yellow thing that is where it connects.

Here is the third additional wire connected straight to the frame of the altenator. It is important to have the wire not touching the radiator. I did it with cable ties.

^^^another view^^^^(Keep in mind the two wires on the positive terminal side go to my two amplifiers in the trunk of my car)
So this is what I come up with as improvements:
Harder hitting subwoofers.
brighter lights
idle doesn't dip as noticeable as before when the sub hits hard.
little to no horse power gain. (although It has been a while for a tune up)
better start up of car (my car had a little hesitation while turning over the engine, now it's gone, It was pretty minor)
for under $30.00usd I guess it is a good buy.

Outstanding. This should clear up some of the intermittent electrical 'ghosts' I have been experiencing.

I have found that the grounding wire to the altenator itself to the battery was the most effective one. I don't believe it is my wishfull thinking. So I do recomend that wire.

why did you decide to put a wire on the alternator? i looked at my engine and mine doesnt even have a wire going from the battery to the aternator.

You know I'm a 17yr know it all so this is what I figured:
The altenator Makes electricity, so... The positive exits the altenator through the wires off your altenator. And the negetive goes to the body of the altenator. So why not get the power from your atenator directly to the otherside of the car, inevitably to the battery. Which will keep your battery happy and balence out the elictricity. When I hooked that up thats when I found a good difference in my car. (slight bit more power(very slight) and brighter lights in general). So thats why I endorse the third one.

my idle drops a lil when my headlamps are on and worse yet when my sub starts jumpin' so I'm doing mine this weekend, but I'm soldering my wires to my loop connectors as well as crimping them and I'm sanding the points where I'm connecting the gnd wires to make a good electrical connection (I'll be more at ease with all that done)...thnx for the info guys

Bad Idea
That loop is shit.
at least buy a connector that is a little more substantial. The OEM wires to the tranny and frame are O.K but as long as I had a lot of wire I replaced it all. I do not suggest doing It half ass. I copied the kits that run $100.00.
Tell us what you find when you do yours, please.
Pictures are a plus. Send me them via email if you don't know how to post. Hi827@msn.com

P.S. I don't know anythink about sodering but make sure the crap you use is not all that corrosive. If you do end up doing It your way.
