i have a 95 celica tieh the 5sfe moto....and receltly the car just shut off on me and didnt want to start again......adn then i was toled that it was a battery issue...so i got a new one and that kinda helped....but it still wont start its makin the normal noises it would make when it does start but it just wont start...i know it might be confusin g as to what the problem is...but this is the right place for me to get help.,..so if anyone has an idea what could be wrong let me know.

Also, can i take the 5sfe out of the 95 and put it in the 89(which has a 3sfe) without any problems...or will i have to make mods in order for it to work....thanks.

well your post is a little jumbled about but I'll help where I can.

If the vehicle just shut off while it was running, then in no way was it a battery issue. the battery is just there to start the car. On a car with a properly functioning alternator, you can disconnect the battery terminal and the car will still running.

Now that you say it still wont start. It sounds like the engine is still turning over? the normal whine before the engine starts firing? is that correct? If the engine is turning then you can rule out the starter, battery, and alternator.

If the engine is not turning then I would first look at those three.

If the engine is turning you have to look elsewhere, possibly:
-the timing belt(would cause similar symptoms, also when trying to start the car the whine from the starter will sound more high pitched). easy way to check is to remove the distributor cap, have someone crank the engine. if the rotor inside does not spin then its a good shot its the timing belt
-fuel pump. you can check the pressure at the fuel rail to see if its making it there.
-an ignition component. for example, the coil. This is something that can be checked using a multimeter.

and about swapping. yes you can swap, but you'll also need the 5sfe wiring harnss and computer. the transmission will bolt up, as will the motor mounts.

ok, if it sounds higher pitched, try removing the distributor cap, see if the rotor is spinning to check your timing belt.

No wiring harness required. Strip the 5S down to long block and reuse ALL electrical parts from the 3S. Including intake manifold and anything you don't know if it'll work. Reuse as much as possible from the 3S.

oh ok. I stand corrected. After thinking about it the swap, make sure you use the old intake manifold, the 5sfes after 92 use an IAC valve and the 3sfe probably dpesn't have the provision for that.

after the cap comes off, have some one try to start the car real quick. Watch to see if the rotor spins inside the distributor when they bump the starter.

ok then thats a good thing. your timing belt is still intact. The next thing I would check would be if you are getting a spark, then if you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail.
