OBD Help and explanation + PLX kiwi device problem

O.k. i bought a Celica the other day.

2000 model 1.8 vvti, was am import from japan to Ireland.

I have a Plx kiwi obd wifi dongle that i used on previous cars, it's an obd device that connects to my iphone and gives me readings just like a scanner etc.

http://www.plxkiwi.com/kiwiwifi/hardware.html

Now my problem is when i connect the device to the obd port ( under the dash ) on the Celica nothing happens. Usually the light comes on on the deivice then i cant set up etc.

Does anyone know if this device is compatible with the Celica?

I've been reading about different types of obd protocol, iso, can on other forums and I've no idea what protocol the Celica uses OR what protocol's are compatible with the kiwi obd device i have.

Can anyone give me any information on this?

Thanks
