Question Rod knock

I have recently purchased 2001 Celica GT at a salvage auction. After finishing body work, to my horror I realized that there is also an engine problem. There was this definite knocking noise. I pulled the head off and found that one piston was a bit lower then normal. I then pulled this piston out and found that its connecting rod was bent. I then replaced a connecting rod and almost finished putting it all together, but now I am wandering what could have caused it, and whether there was any damage done to the cam?

Hydro-lock. Someone used it as a submarine. UP PERISCOPE!
Common in rainstorms with small imports that have air intake lower than the top of the tires.

deep... a miss shift would eat the valves like they where MM's but not bend a rod... my vote is Hydro-Lock, altho it depend's on how much the rod was bent... also since it was only one rod, thats a good sine of hydro-lock. (mottor stops on one of the Cil's Compreshon strokes, its not going to keep going for the others) and ushaly chomping down on vlaves mess's up more then one, in more then one cilinder. (example, my stepfathers 911 at 9000+ RPMS, 6 bent exhaust valves... it wasent prity) u sead you got it as part of a salvage auction? i bet when it got totaled it was in the rain (Female driver ) it took in some watter. the 2zz-ge runs like 11:1 or somthing rather high like that.. and all it takes is alital bit of watter and u got a bent rod. so to fix it id just rebiuld the motor and have the head checked. oh ya and throw on a mettal head gasket for alital extra fun... hay why ur also at it change out the crank and pistons to lower it to 8.5:1 and turbo the piss out of that sucker..

All of the valves were fines, I had them checked. I wander if it did any damage to the crank.

Not in all cases man, 1ZZ/2ZZ rods are pretty skinny.

Thumbs up

Thanks! That makes me feel much better. I am almost done with it, hoping to start it tomorrow and see how it runs.
