i have a 1990 toyota celica st model with a 1.6L i am having problems with the front motor mount and i keep having to replace it.Every time i get a new one and install it i drive it to work and when i get home the motor mount in the front is ripped all the other mounts are fine it looks like the motor mount is to small but everytime i order it they keep giving me the same one should the front motor mount be big like the left and right one and if so does anyone have pics of wat it looks like so i can get a idea were i can get one thanks for any help
For an automatic transmission 90 Celica ST w/1.6L 4A-FE engine, the correct Toyota Part No. for that motor mount would be 12361-16180. I know the same car with a manual transmission has a different part number for that motor mount. I replaced one that was brittle on my 91 Celica ST automatic, and it worked fine. I did put a non-Toyota mount on the backside and found that rubber to be much stiffer than a Toyota OEM mount. But that should not be causing a mount to just rip apart. I'm wondering if you keep getting a motor mount for one transmission, but you have the other (i.e.; you are getting a motor mount for an automatic transmission, but you have a manual transmission). I can see how this would happen.

It'd be a good idea to double check the part number, When I bought my front mount (even if it was for the 5S) the listing had my mounts reversed between auto and manual
Then Toyota Part No. 12361-16180 is the right one for your ST as well. If you got a Toyota OEM mount, make sure it was this part number. If you got a mount from an auto parts store, let us know the mount manufacturer and part number.
just for giggles, replace the rear one and the one near the belt. they may 'look' OK but are not. the rear one breaks all the time and really stresses the front one, the side ones get very very soft and let the engine rock way too much as well.

Bitter, is the rear mount (transmission end) that breaks all the time specific to the Celica 4A-FE automatic transmission model only? Do 4A-FE manual transmission Celica's have the same problem? How about 5S-FE automatic & manual transmission Celica's, do they have frequent rear motor mount failures too?
Just wondering - I have a 91 Celica ST 4A-FE automatic, and I get a vibration on accelerating when the engine is at 3,000 - 3,200 RPM - it even rattles the floorboard at times. Replaced the side mounts, but no change. I can't see any contact points on the engine that would cause this. I looked at the rear motor mount (it is hard to see as it is a bit buried), but it looked intact.
Well, I can say I had failure of all four mounts, 5S with manual.
The front mount was rather broken apart, the rear wasn't in great shape, the transmission mount and front right(both of which I had to go through toyota to get) looked to be ok but it wasn't until I replaced all four that the vibration subsided. I had a near constant vibration through mine. It was pretty bad. With the windows up, at higher rpm it felt like it was shaking your insides. With every mount I changed, the vibration would feel slightly different but it wasn't until the last one went in that it disappeared.
I dont know if any one ran in to this but i notice it vibrates more when the a/c is on. when its off its fine. so then if the mount are good then why would the a/c be the problem. It is cold
