Question New to forum, fan doesn't blow through vents

Hello everyone. I don't remember posting before but I have viewed the forum for the last 2 years. I have just purchased another toyota 2 days ago, my 5th, and I need a little help.
My latest is a '83 celica GT. The previous owner said he had just replaced the blower motor but it still was not blowing out the vents. I live in SW Missouri and it is hot here right now. He was right the blower blows, but I don't know where it is blowing to. I do feel a little cold air on my feet but nothing comes out of the vents. I have the Haynes repair manual, I always get one for my cars (and keep them). I have removed the glove box and the lower dash on the passenger side but what do I do next? I read on a post that someone had problem where things(vents) would open or close on their own blocking the flow. They had said it was a faulty control board? There is so much stuff (wires, connectors, fuel injector module?) in the space surrounding the glovebox. I don't want to just start unpluging things to try and find why the air flow is blocked.
Should I re-post this problem since I'm on the introduction post?

That's quite an interesting problem. I assume the actual ducts would still be attached to the vents, but it's worth checking just in case. Although even if one was off, it would be highly unlikely for the other one to be off too. If the vent/duct control on the blower control panel is all electronically controlled then that's a possibility too. On my 93' Corolla it's all done electronically with the push of a button instead of a slider. If you listen carefully you should be able to hear the motor engage when you press the button. If it's manually controlled with a slider then check that the linkages are all intact.

I'll move this thread to the Celica forum as you're likely to get more replies in there

I believe the 86-89 celicas were electronically controlled, I would guess your's probably operates with a slider. Sometimes you can trace the linkage that opens the vent, like mine leads to just underneath the passenger side dash, but I wouldn't know where to find one on a 3rd gen.

Thanks for moving to the forum, and for your quick reply. Thsi is a 3rd gen and has the slider controls. I can hear the fan and feel it running it just doesn't blow out hte vents. Next I will take off the controls and I guess the radio needs to come off too to do that.

could it be on defrost and stuck there? could the air inlet be clogged? outlets stuffed with mice nest?

It doesn't seem to defrost very well either. I'll look for nests when I take more of it apart. I found a nest in my 89 Camry wagon in the wheel well a few weeks ago.

Update

I took all of the lower dash apart, except the radio, but I could not remove the controls. I repaired a lot of the dash that had been broken, I think when the blower was changed since most of the pieces were laying around. I was checking the new blower and noiticed the wires were spliced, since the new moter was hard wired, no clip for wires. I saw that they had connected blue to the blue/black and black to the blue. I switched it to blue to blue and black to blue/black. Now the moter really blows, but only out the defrost vents and out at my feet. It still will not blow out the middle or side vents but I can ride with the windows up. The slider has 4 positions. 1 is for ventilation, 2 is for heat or ac, 3 is for heat and 4 is for defrost. When I move the control I hear what sounds like it is closing and opening different areas but air only comes out the defrost vents. It blows strongest on vent(1) and deforst(4) but still blows on heat/ac(2) and heat(3). To get up the that connection of the ducts I think I need to take the upper part of the dash off, I'm not looking forward to doing that. Any suggestion? I could still drive it with the lower dash removed I'm not sure I could with the whole thing apart.
