2002 Toyota Celica GTS clutch problems

I have a 2002 Toyota Celica GTS. I've been having trouble getting it into first sometimes but after putting it in reverse, first is no problem. Any advice? Also I was told that the clutch takes brake fluid, since it's hydraulic. Can i check this level somehow?
Thanks!

Are you trying to downshift into first? Most manual transmissions I've dealt with make it a bit tougher to go into first when in motion, which is nice in the even of a missed shift. If that's not the case, it's possible that the synchro could be worn, but you'll notice gear grinding with that. The clutch shares the fluid reservoir with the brakes, you can check it under the hood if you want, but I doubt the clutch is involved.

Hi, Thanks for the response. I'm not trying to downshift into first, just get started. Usually this happens in the worst place, like on a hill with a high end SUV up my butt. However, I can get it moving in second, though I don't like to. I haven't heard any grinding though I do hear a slight tweeting sound when shifting.

My car really won't go into first unless I'm almost completely stopped, which I like as well.

As for the brake fluid, if it's added to the reservoir will it get to the clutch? I'm just wondering for regular maintenance. Also, does a certain brake fluid need to be used?

Thanks so much.
