Bearing Problems....

Well, I was given a Celica GTS ('84) and had been told that the bearing had already been replaced and as they test drove it, the bearing spun once again a couple of miles down the road...

I talked to a mechanic and he told me to buy a crate motor because the japanese motors are worthless after the bearings spin... Now, is this true??? I am trying to get by with as little money as possible as I am a full time student...
Well, what should I do???? Thanks..

Pound a JDM crate motor in that bad boy and never look back. Since the inital outlay for this project was $0.00, you are way ahead of the game already. Then sell your head and block on eBay to offset the cost saving even more $$.

That was already done and it spun again... So the orig owner before the one that owned it before me ground some of the crank leaving it real loose when you install another bearing... Unless I can get smaller bearings... I think stock is .25 or something like that.. The only other size then stock for that engine is .5... So is there any sites I can check up with more parts for this car or do I have to go to the local parts store? Oh, and I have a set of .25 bearings (new) sitting in my car.. But again, its loose...

Thanks for all the help...

Now would I be able to drop a Supra turbo engine in it??? Or any other engines??? This engine just does not seem to have the performance capabilities that I desire, but I could live with it....... Possibily.......

More info on this please.. I havent been much of a Toyota fan as I grew up with Mopars.... (edit....- just read into it and read that it was fitted to JDM altezza's which would be expensive... Sooo maybe no go...) haha but still please more info.. (just in case)

But another thing is is can I just replace the crank or something?

3600 off of ebay. come on...dual vvti 210 hp.

first things first, id figure out why he spun another bearing. he must have ran it out of oil, or has something horribly wrong with the oil pump. if i was gonna fix it, and wanted to do it right, id change the crank, all the related bearings and seals, and the oil pump just to make sure. something is wrong with it to just spin bearings....biggest cause ive found is operator error. of course, this is my .02

oh, i think there are a few turbod versions of the 22r that are jdm of course.
and of course...any swap can be done for the right amount of money

Ah... Didnt notice this, I was lookin into 1500 or lower... I would prefer lower though... But as I look all over the car though, I figure its an '85 cause its got 22RE as all the stickers say and it was built in Oct of 84.. I found a crank... the link Would this work to replace with in a stock motor?? (the top crank)

lol a stroker kit. yeah, that would work. i couldnt see why it would matter on the top end of the engine. just make sure you get a valve job when you do it
