Need more and clearer information, man!

So does your tank have a fuel leak that you can smell / see dripping around the tank area when you put more than 5-6 gallons in?

Or is the tank full after you put 5-6 gallons in it?

If it is full after putting 5-6 gallons in it, why don't you wait until your gas gauge is reading closer to empty before filling it up?

Answers to these types of questions should be in your original post statement describing the problem you are having, sir.

When you are "tap out of fuel", does your fuel gauge read empty? Does the orange light with the image of a fuel pump in your instrument cluster illuminate?

I still don't know what you mean by "tap out". Some kind of lingo I'm not familiar with. And you shouldn't use lingo in these threads, so please don't.

Your fuel tank has 2 sending units. One sends information to your fuel gauge. The other sends information to a light in your instrument cluster to light an orange colored fuel pump image when your tank is very low on fuel. This normally happens when your gauge is reading 1/8th full or less.

Since you are not getting the orange fuel pump light to light up, and yet you are saying your fuel gauge is reading empty (that will be my interpretation of "tap out", since you are not defining that slang for me), then you have a problem with your fuel level sending unit, or you have a problem with a wire between the fuel level sending unit and the instrument cluster. It would be best to check the resistance of the wire between the fuel level sending unit and the instrument cluster. If less than a couple of ohms, you will need to replace the fuel level sending unit from inside the tank. If more than a couple ohms, you will need to find the cause for the increase in resistance along this wire path and repair the wire.

So you mean the engine dies due to having run out of gas? If that's the case, I'd assume there to be some sort of build up in your gas tank. If you're just saying that the needle hits empty, keep trying to drive until the light comes on(Bring a spare gallon or 2 in the trunk for this). The reading from the needle on the instrument cluster may just be faulty.

He never said the engine dies. He is just saying that his fuel gauge reads empty now, and when he fills the tank, he can only get 5-6 gallons in it before it is completely full. No orange fuel tank light coming on in the instrument cluster when the fuel gauge is reading empty either.
