a fork stuck in the road

for the past couple of months i have been talkin about a 3sGTE swap and then switchin back and forth on what to do with me car. what doesnt make sense to me i if the 5fse has a larger displacement size then why not deck it out in stead of swaping for the ever popular 3sGTE 2000 cc engine in it it just seems to me like the 3sGTE is just a quick way to get the speed

also i need a specs page on a 90 gts mine didnt come with one so i wanna know how mch horse and torqe i'm running and how much gas it drinks to the gallon.... i got a owners manual but it doesnt say a thing on that... anyone want to help???

the reason ppl swich the two engines is becuz the 5sfe was not meant to really put out hp. something about the head and the valve angles are not aggressive and the stupid thing doesnt even sit level..its angled at like 15 degrees or something...the ge head is just a better head meant to put out more hp at a cheaper cost.

You are right about that. But I wouldn't give up just yet. I have heard from reliable sources that some projects are underway to help our disadvantaged little sister engine. I would really like to know if there is another head with bolt-on capability to help enhance the output of the 5sfe. I think it's a great engine. Since I have never driven a Celica with the 3sgte, I can't comment on it,
but mine has plenty of kick. The minor mods I've done have greatly increased throttle response and acceleration, although I don't know how much HP she is pushing.

Wow, smart man you are. The 5S is a fine engine, just lacks aftermarket support. It takes money and brains to build this motor. Here are some of the project that I know about right now, TB, header, intake manifold just off the top of my head. I know of one more but that will be kept under wraps till complete.

i dont mean to diss the 5s its just it has really brought me nothing but trouble...even though some is partly my fault...my celica being my first car and all i luv it to death but my car has been out of order for about 14 weeks now and the parts cost me over 1200 so far and i still have things needed to replace and after i put it all back together i still dont know if it will run right...but if it all gets back together sometime in the near future you bet i will be putting aftermarket parts on it. i just wont expect much.

yea i have not heard of an aftermarket intake manifold for the 5s... if you could find a bigger throttle body to go with it then it could be a nice addition with bigger injectors, plugs and wires.

Home made cold air intake, advanced timing and higher octane fuel. I am also working with an engine grounding project(see 's earlier post). A good throttle body cleaning can do wonders for ya if needed. I also use Bosch Platinum plugs, which some guys say aren't any good in the 5sfe, but they have helped.
You know, a little here a little there, it all adds up. Some day I hope to have a header, better exhaust, maybe nitrous. Big maybe there.

The throttle body for the 3sge is about 5mm bigger...not sure if it will bolt up to the 5sfe though..
