I'm looking at a 2005 Celica GT with 54k miles from a certified dealer. Carfax shows single owner with no accidents and regular oil changes from Toyota. The dealer is quoting 1500 for 1 yr 12k miles, 1650 for 2 yr 24k miles and 1800 for 3 year 36k miles for extended warranty. Do you think it's worth it? The only expensive repairs on the car would be engine and trans which I've seen don't fail in these cars.
I did buy it and I love it. Only problem I found was the tire noise. What are a good set of tires for the car?
Also what's the difference in the 1zz and 2zz engine? I hear 2zz needs a higher octane rating to run. How do I know which one I have and which gasoline to use? (87, 89, 92)
1zz is in the GT and 2zz is in the GTS.
If you don't know which one oyu have look on your registration/insurance card or pop the hood. The 1zz (gt) has the letters vvti on the engine cover. The 2zz(gts) has vvti-L on it.
The 2zz has "lift" google it lol. produces approx. 185 hp where as the 1zz pushes about 145hp
1zz (gt): Doesn't matter what gas you use. 87/89/93
2zz(gts): Premium (89 octane) or higher. 89/93
I have the GT but until I found out, I've been putting 89 fuel inside. Now I'll go down to 87. Aside from HP, and lower gas mileage of course (I used 1 1/2 tank driving 920 miles!) is there any difference in the GT and GT-S engines?
Are the sport tires you have good in wet/snow traction and are they quiet? Compared to my dad's 2002 Camry LE tires, my celica tires (Yokahama All Weather I think) are like a jet engine.
pretty much my tires have really good tread depth so they will last longer. But they are mainly summer tires. They grip good in the rain. Never had them in the snow, and i'm prolly not driving it in the winter.
Just search around and look up reviews for tires to see what suits ur needs.
Ah that's probably why mine doesn't kick in like I thought it would when accelerating. Oh well, I'd hoped for a GT-S but with the looks I got on this used GT, I have to thank the guy that traded it in.
Thank you. Just gonna start on replacing the tires probably after winter, the tread on these, especially the front ones are quite low. The back is like new. Should I just do a rotation and replacement in Spring/Summer 2011?
