European Union Cold Air Ram Celica T20 ('94)

Dear all,

I have chip tuned my car, added a powerflow exhaust and have an AEM air filter. All works great, but the mechanic who put the air filter on put it directly onto the carb output (so no tube). It has been suggested that if I get a tube that either goes to where the old airbox was or a down inbetween my engine I would get better throttle response. My question is it worth it, and can anyone give me the diameter of the tube that is needed to fit on the carb output?

I think 250 odd euros for a cold air ram is a bit over the top for a piece of metal tubing and an airfilter (which I already have), so wanted to make one myself.

thanks

IIRC correctly, its 2.5" at the throttle body. There is no carb. Also, lengthening the intake tract would bring cooler air into the engine, but seems it would decrease your throttle response depending on how long the tubing is.

by the way, chip tuned?

Well, it has a

Chip in it, and

Exhaust system, that and a non standard air filter.

The chip actually improved pertrol use and gives me more power in the top end, especially motorway driving.

Huh. I'd be very wary of that chip. On a stock engine there isn't really any power left untapped.... They work for some vehicles by changing boost pressures but we're N/A....

I have had that chip in the car for about 10 years, so no worries.

And just to explain, the chip doesnt give you more power, rather changes ratios. And for the record, I went from 1:12 fuel consumption to 1:15 and it gave me far more power in higher band, noticed a lot when overtaking.
