2001 GT Accelarator Pedal problem ?

Hey, Celica boys/gals, a friend of mine at work has the Panasonic edition 2002 GT, and has an issue. Not sure if this is common or normal. But he is complaining about the response time for accelarating while passing a car on the 404. He says, that he actually has to floor it before it makes any kind'of response. He has a 2003 Corolla also, and doesn't notice the same issue, you gradually depress the pedal and the car goes. His Celica doesn't., it sort'of hesitates 1/2 second before it moves according to him. Is this a pedal issue or linkage problem, or this is how this Celica is ? He's a little disappointed, says the Corollas seems to have more kick. Any suggestions or comments ?

thanxs,

Sleekaman.

Is it an automatic? From my experience it'll probably be in overdrive and for any big acceleration it'll drop down to 3rd.
