New Car!

Hey,

I have just bought a 1990 Celica GT-S. It's auto (can't win them all) and has 200k on the engine. Since I wouldn't consider myself a car guy I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what I should replace/upgrade.

So far I am looking to get K&N Air filter and Oilfilter, but since I'm not too knowledgeable about other parts, I'm not sure what will need replacing on my car.

Thanks

200k... automatic.... GT-S..

your a perfict canadit for a 3s-GTE or 3s-GE swap..

the car has about another 20k left in it budy. just swap it out for ither a FWD 3s-GTE or AWD 3s-GTE.

the 3s is the 2L mottor, the GE is the NA model, and the GTE is the turbo set up..
it makes around 200+ HP (play with it and you can make more, ALOT MORE)

since you dont know much about cars, this swap is an insane thing for one such as you to even think about, let alone under take... sooooo find some one and pay them...

other wise drive the car tell it die's.

how much am i looking at for these new engines? and does anyone know any places in the Greater Toronto Area where I could find one?

and what is it that actually 'dies' in the engine? and would replacing belts and hoses prolong its life past the 20k?

^you're looking at around 1000 for engine including the wiring harness...and yes...your car will last your for quite some time...not only for 20k...toyotas have strong cars...i think that it's time to replace the timing belt and water pump if it has not been changed yet...and just make sure that you change oil regularly and your engine will survive for quite a while....hope that helps..

Yeah, that does help. I have actually had a few ppl telling me about the belts and such. I just bought the car for 4500 cdn, and was getting really worried if i had to put another grand in.

For now i think ill just put in all new fluids and keep them topped up, along with a new air and oil filter.

Once i get more money, i was thinking of new headers and pistons but I'm not sure the cost of that.

oooooooooooh! 4500 is pretty steep. For that price that car better look new. My two cents is to get a performance muffler on that thing. Not a huge fart can.

yeah, she does look like new...not a hint of rust on it. i just washed it yesterday and its as if it was painted yesterday.
my only real concerns are Engine and Tranny, but thats only because they are expensive to fix/replace, and with my luck those will be the things to go wrong.

anyway, i stopped into the toyota dealership today and found out that ill have to import all my parts because they don't carry them, nor will they order them, so if anyone knows a good place to get, it would help.

i also found out that as long as i keep on eye on things, i should be able to get quite a bit more out of her.

how much do pistons and headers usually cost?
