4th Generation Complete Redesigning of a 1988 Celica.

Okay I understand speaking of a carbon fiber monocoque in a Toyota Forum is unheard of but information like this is very valuable in the near future.

I've been researching on engines, aerodynamics to wind, interior design, and 50/50 weight distribution and especially....Chassis.

I'm very interested in how much a carbon fiber monocoque is going to cost me and how it's going to be done ( if anyone knows the price and process)

Project background:
This is an extremely big project for me and this is more like a Chip Foose outlook, but I'm starting this project in at least 5 years.

My 1988 Toyota Celica is going to be completely redesigned from the inside out...everything. It's body is going to be wider, longer, fit to look like it can easily get on the track with some impressive numbers as well as drag racing, all while it can still retain it's street legal driveablility and as close as it can look to the original Celica design, which I'm currently in the process of designing.

I understand the expense of all this.

So a carbon fiber monocoque... process and price?

Much appreciated thanks.

Here's an Example of a carbon-fiber monocoque in a McLaren F1:

Interesting topic but I guess my question is, why? I love the Gen4 Celicas too but frankly, that's a crazy idea.

Not trying to be a dick but those race cars run easily over $100,000 in engineering, building, testing and development alone, so unless you're independently wealthy (and still driving a 22-year-old Celica), it's a no starter. Besides, why try to change the shape of the near-perfectly styled ST162/165?

I have enough trouble finding the time to do all the maintenance on my trio of 20+year old Celicas. Nice to dream but I'd focus on getting your current Celi into tip-top shape instead. Cheers

4th Generation

Thanks for the reply. My opinion the 4th Gens do have the best body design than the other Gens. Although, being a perfectionist towards my cars, I see it's flaws. It's body looks a bit narrow, just a tad. I'd like to widen out the fenders, so it can look like it's hugging the road more. Money is not something I have unfortunately, I'm still a freshman college. Currently trying to get a bachelors degree for a job that gives me up to +$45/hr. Been wanting to become a car designer myself, but grades in high school can't give me that anymore.

Although like you said, I am currently getting my Celica in tip top shape, as that's all I can do and it's expensive. Although most of the work I said I'm going to do, I'm going to do myself. So prices are gonna be much cheaper. I might scrap ideas and bring in others, it depends. It's a project that's slowly going to be done. And one of my inspirations is Chip Foose. It's the pride of bulding your own and the beautiful work that has been done that's going to make this project more than worthwhile.

With a good education, training and talent, maybe you'll be the next Chip Foose someday.

For your current budget/situation, however, it might be more practical to just pick up another Gen4 and do your own bodywork. Mod the exterior body with kits, fiberglass and bondo to achieve the fatter 'squat' look you're aiming for.

Thanks for the inspiring words. Yes I will be doing 99.9% of the work. The remaining 1% percent will probably be from tinting the windows. Ha, just exaggerating, but I prefer doing all ALOT of the work. I'll be posting the project soon.
