77 Celica Rear Axle Issue

Replaced both rear axle shaft bearings on a cuctomer's 77 Celica, We had the local machine shop press them on. After re-assembly both brake drums were dragging on the backing plates as if the axle shafts were in too far. Took it all apart and the bearings looked to be correctly installed and seated on the axle shafts. We tried grinding off the drums where they were rubbing the backing plates, but the problem presisted and didn't want to grind off too much. We had an old Haynes repair manual that showed a spacer on the axle shaft on the outside of the bearing, which would make the axle stick out a little further. Not 100% sure, but don't remember seeing spacers on the shafts before the bearing swap. I have never replaced the rear bearings on this model Celica, and it has been so long that my boss can't remember. So, anybody familar with this? There is a slight chance that the machine shop bent the axles, but both in the same way? Will check runout tomorrow.
