1990 5SFE won't go above 4,000 RPM

Hi all, Daughters car is at it again. It was acting like a fuel issue. Replaced the Air filter, Fuel filter and then the fuel pump. The car runs strong up to 4,000 rpm then goes flat and starts bucking / dropping off. Not throwing any codes.

6 months since top-end Clean; Cap; Rotor; Plugs ...
Take out Motor from Japan with 30,000 +40,000 miles on it.

It was suggested that the CAT was plugged. Car has 207,000 Spoke with local gargae and they said that it would not run past idle with a plugged CAT.

Thanks for any offers of assistance.

Timing within Spec's.

I read somewhere that a coolant sensor can raise Havoc and not throw a code?

Yes, I've heard that, but don't know if it's true.

Hi All, Got it. Car finally got to the point that it would not run. Cat was plugged. Once I temporarily cleaned it out! Car runs Excellent. Shopping for replacement CAT. Thanks for your feedback!

A direct fit cat may be rather pricey. For about the same price, you can replace the manifold and cat with a header, buy a universal cat, and have a shop weld it in farther down the exhaust. Something you may be interested in doing?
