The son was involved in his first accident 36 hrs after getting his license. He wasn't injured, Thank God, (other than a bump on his head from hitting the rearview mirror)....thats what matters most!
Seems the auto headlights malfunctioned for some reason, and a lady in a Pathfinder exited a parking lot and hammered him in the right front as he was driving by! She had a witness that confirmed to the police that his headlights were not on.
He got a ticket for No Headlights
Insurance adjuster/estimator determined that its $4386.30 to repair....totaled!
It still runs and drives fine and the airbags didn't deploy. It was a nice little car while it lasted. Were going to miss it.

but still...how do you not see a silver car in a parking lot if YOUR headlights are working? she wasn't paying attention and its his bad luck his lights were off. IIRC the auto headlights are in one of two states DRL mode or low beam mode UNLESS the parking brake is on (even one click).
put it up on newcelica and part it, well assuming the buyback isn't too high.
Well I'm glad that your son and the woman involved as well are ok.
The ticket seems excessive, but thats how things work I guess. I recieved one when I went off the road and took out a little plastic reflector/guide pole on the side of the road in my accident with my old corolla.
If you have the space, time and opportunity to keep the car, you may be able to make a little money back as well with a part out?

That must have been the case! The brake wasn't completely off. He was on the main road driving by the parking lot and she was of course talking on a cell phonein her left ear, then turned left into his right front.
Shocked the shit out of the boy. I wondered too how she saw he didn't have his lights on but not the rest of the bright silver car.
He had counted down the days to be able to drive by himself, and it lasted less than 2 days.
We were talking last night about buying it back if it isn't too high! I wouldn't mind having the front buckets, and steering wheel in the coupe!
He's happy now tho! It's been replaced already (see sig)

Oh Dang Joe! Glad your boy is OK. I Know he's gotta be bummed.
So which of the vehicles in your sig is he driving now?
Yeah it really devastated the guy...he loved his Celica. He was really pissed at first, then cried like a baby. I told him the most important thing is he's OK. Car's are replaceable, but he isn't
He's driving the CRV! I Bought it yesterday. It been well taken care of. I had my mechanic check it over too and he couldn't find any issues. It has 114,000 its an EX 4WD 4spd auto, Black, and its slow. Its probably something I should had bought him to begin with.
I'll tell him Russ sent his condolences!

Thats debatable. Coulda happened in any vehicle.

Poor guy.
Still, The CRV is a nice vehicle. Wouldn't mind one of those myself!
glad to hear! another thing to look at/look out for are the gaskets that seal the coolant manifold on the drivers side (from rear head to front head) sometimes leak and the EGR passage that passes through that area sometimes also clogs.
its not as much the belt that fails as it is the water pump/tensioner/idler that fail.
