Gen5 3s-Gte Build

Hey guys! i'm doing a rebuild on my 3s-Gte. St-185. I pulled this engine out of a gt4, it had 180,000 km on the engine. I swaped it into my all-trac only thing i really needed to modify is the wiring harness -.-* as you guy's probably know.

Anyways... lets get on with the build.... I took the engine out of my car because i spun a bearing, i had it in my car for about 3 months at about 10-12 psi. Only mods i have right now are a 3" aftermarket intake, 3" downpipe, 2.5" exhaust, and a manual boost controller..

So i took my engine to the local engine shop and i'm getting them to clean everything, rebuild the head, grind the crank, bore the cyliders 0.200, acl racing rod and crank bearings, oversized pistons, keeping my stock rods.

After i get the engine back i'm putting in a new stage 3 six puck clutch, after market intake manifold, metal head gasket, arp hardware, oil pump, water pump, timing belt, and i can't think of what else i am getting but its not that important haha.

my engine has 220 stock horsepower and 220 ft-lbs torque and i belive thats at about 7 psi which is around stock. I'm going to be running about 15 psi and im estimating to be running about 320 horse to the flywheel, hoping to get 200+ to the wheels. Anyone got any ideas or guesses on how much ill be running? Anyways im going to bed now ill post pictures of the rebuild tomorrow or the next day cya!

Ah, the ST185 3sgte has 200hp/200ft.lbs tq. Those are flywheel numbers.
And it produces that at 6K or so RPM's. You would need about 10-12 psi of boost from the stock turbo to get there.
Fuel cut kicks in at 12 psi. So to exceed that boost level, you will have to illiminate the fuel cut.
Nothing you have listed in mods is going to get you anywhere near 320hp at the fly. If you up the boost to 15psi, you will probably run around 240-245hp at the fly. Follow the MR2 power primer(in the MR2 section) and you can max out your set up at about 280hp. ,Which is also the limit of the turbo and clutch. Luckily, the 3sgte runs rich, so the fuel system can go a little higher, but not much.
It takes alot of money , and mods to pass 300hp. Uber much to pass 350hp.
HP is not cheap.

Oh.. I was lead to belive that the gt4 engine has a more aggressive ecu so it had 220 hp.. So an engine rebuild, bore, full custom exhaust with downpipe and manifold, removal of the butterfly thinger ma bobers, 3" intake, and running 15 psi will only get me to 240 to the flywheel? Hm... That kinda sucks haha! Oh.. And ill be investing in a fmi in spring and will be boosting at about 18 psi.

The JDM ST185 put down those numbers. I figured since you're in North America, you had the USDM ST185.

The ST205 has the more aggressive tune, a CT20 Ceramic turbo, geberating 245HP.
Depending on what part of the world the Celica was intended to sell new, will determine the build. There are water to air intercooled models and air to air intercooled models. They even made 3 different gearboxes.
Do you know your model code?

Do you know your Model code?

If you're running the stock CT26 Twin Entry turbo, you will not be able to run 18psi of boost. The CT26 runs out of breath and blows a very hot intake charge after 16psi.18psi is just too far out of it's efficiency island.
16psi will be about all the usefull boost you'll get out of it.
You will need a bigger turbo for that. I run 18psi with my ATS Racing CT27 turbo.
