Exclamation Cracked air intake hose needs to be REPLACED!

I own a 1990 Celica GT, stock with a cracked air intake hose, specifically on the end connected to the throttle body..never a good sign. I'm having WAY TOO MUCH trouble finding a local [Toronto GTA] parts shop that has my part in stock, and any of the sites I've come across that do have it, only offer it around the States and won't ship it over..

I specifically need the OES Genuine make, technically for the 1991-1993 model because any of the 1990 makes I've come across are just the wrong kind..this hasn't made any sense to me..

If this helps, I assume the part # is W0133-1745870.

And here's a picture if that helps even more:
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/im...1745870OES.JPG

I'm aware I can always rely on Toyota dealerships, but I don't want to have to pay $200 for the part alone. So if anyone has a clue of where I can find one locally, preferrebly new, or used but in a very decent condition, I'd really appreciate the helpful word!

Thanks,
Vana

The Toyota dealer list price is $109.00 USD.
17881 HOSE17881-74290 5SFE..ST184

But you can do it for less than 1/2 of that.
You can find silicone hoses of all diameters, lengths, angles and colors on the internet.
I get mine from CXRacing. They're inexpensive and look good too.
Looks like you would need 2 60 degree hoses, an aluminum tube(they sell those too) to connect them and some nice stainless steel T Camps to hold them together. You will have to make a hole for the resonator if you plan on keeping that on. Personally, I would ditch it.

I was told by a Service Tech Manager that it'll cost $200 for the part alone, but through email so I'm hoping he was talking about the right part as well.

I can't tell if the one you've posted is even the proper hose I'm looking for, they should link an image with it. I've come across many 1990 OES air intake hoses that look like this:
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/de...3-1745658.html

and then there's the MTC supplier..again, wrong kind for my wanting..

Anyway, my mechanic deffinately mentioned that idea of just patching it up with silicone based hoses which I might just end up doing, but I personally prefer a securely constructed renewed part. It's a main concern because it's what's causing my baby to die on me in idle, even while driving either if being driven for too long, or accelerated too much. The crack isn't even sealed completely with the tape..it's hideous. My car has been sitting for a month or so, but I run it every day just to keep it going healthy and boosted and it never dies, so it really can't be the distributor or igniter or any of those electricals..

Thanks for the link and tips though! I'm going to look into toyotapartszone more and try to find out if it's the right kind. I'm still waiting on some updates from Toronto Motorsports. Or else I'll have to get my mechanic to follow your Tip #2, ah.

Or buy a cheap cold air, short ram alum intake to replace the pipe.
Go to Standard Auto. You maybe able to find one in the You Pick yard. Look at the Camry and Corolla if you can't find Celica. You maybe able to use their intake hose.

Yeah I've deffinatley looked into those two..cancel out the cold air intake, not a good idea at all. But for short rams, what would happen to the plugs? Looks like there are plugs around the hose..i'm guessing it'd be the air flow sensor? I'm still a rookie so please understand my questions, haha..

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._3272909_n.jpg

Here's a pic underneath my hood..and as you can see, that one end of the hose is a mess.

I've already found a good deal to a clean short ram intake..but I'm not sure how it'd work..

Thanks!

I think you'd be fine using some silicone couplers and aluminum tube, alot more robust than the stock rubber that drys and cracks.

Alright so as MR2Jedi mentioned..meaning the whole tubing would be aluminum with silicone couplers slid on each end to connect it in place? Is that how it'd be mounted?

How brutal will it sound without the resonator? I don't want to drive around with a dead or annoying fart coming out of my ass. And where does the MAF sit in this car? Will it be in the way of the tubing?

I really appreciate the ideas,
Vana

You probably won't even notice the missing resonator. At most you'll get a little deeper engine sound under hard acceleration.

I fixed 2 toyota intake hoses with PVC pipe fittings and rubber plumbing couplings commonly called Fernco couplings by plumbers, and they even come with the hose clamps. Take the old hose off and bring it into home depot or lowes and play around with the different 1 1/2" or 2" fittings until you make something work with a rubber fernco at each end. I think the throttle body end is a different size than the air cleaner end so you have to use a reducer or a Street elbow on one end. The pvc holds up to the underhood temps fine so do the ferncos they are really thick rubber. Total cost will be like 20 bucks.

That may work, but would be very unsightly.

PVC* pipe fittings are no good under the heat of the engine, they're too cheap, I can't rely on that.

Pineapple, that looks like a great fix, but my crack is on the END that's connected to the throttle body:
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._3272909_n.jpg
so realisitcally i can find a different fitting of some silicone coupler and connect it, but i'd rather replace the whole hose in case the crack from that end follows down through the rest of the hose..I want a permanent fix.

So my idea now is to get rid of the resonator box since it's easier to find hoses without that extra 3rd hole. I'm wondering if I can use an 89 hose on my 90?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Air-C...Q5fAccessories

It sais it won't fit, but if it's the same length I can imagine to shove that in without the resonator box being connected.

Yes? No?

Again, all tips are appreciated guys!
Vana

Mine broken at same place. I cut the OEM one short and fit a alum pipe in with PVC fitting connect to throttle body.

Make sure you use right clamp for silicone. Regular hose clamp will cut into them when tighten.

Right on, i'm gonna stick to this and do the shopping with my buddy.

*It'd be extra help if you remember the measurements/diameter of the aluminum pipe and the PVC fitting and share them if it's no hassle.

Thanks alot!

Sorry don't remember and I don't have the car anymore. I believe its a bit larger then the stock throttle. The alum pipe is from aftermarket short ram which I cut.
