Different kind of wheel bearing?

1993 Celica ST. 1.6L. No ABS. Front wheel bearing LH side has failed twice. A friend of mine told me I was getting the wrong type of wheel bearing. He says a need a wheel bearing "assembly". I've looked up hubs to see a pic. The pics I see show a cylindrical tube on the part of that goes into the bearing. Mine is more cone shaped with machined grooves in it. The auto parts store tell me there's only one bearing listed and that's the one that's failed on me. Looking at RockAuto's website, I see two types. The usual and then one that looks like it has some kind of plastic/fibre spider looking thing in it. Can somebody tell me what to ask for? Thanks in advance!

Good ol china steel... i have changed many a wheel bearing on my last 2 5th gens. There is only one kind of bearing(there shouldn't be anything cone-shaped), and you have to grease the hell out of them when you put one in.
THE NUMBER ONE THING that caused it to go out was if you tightened the driveshaft nut WITH WEIGHT ON THE WHEEL.
Number two was if it wasn't torqued to like ten million lb/ft! jus kiddin, but really i just hold the impact wrench til it doesnt turn anymore.
that plastic spider that comes with is just part of the packaging.

Otherwise, if it was done correctly it is possible you wore the inner race of the hub down with the original bearing(by driving on it too long). If this is the case, then no bearing will ever last in that hub.Find a complete steering knuckle that spins nice. BTW gt and st hubs are the same 'cept from the 1990 st's as they are 4 hole

I appreciate the reply. Got it figured out now that I got it cleaned up. What I thought was cone shaped was actually the inner race of the bearing stuck on the hub spindle, DUH! Doesn't look like the outer bearing was pressed all the way down. I'm looking for a new hub now. Thanks!
