Just posting to see what you guys think. I found this 2001 celica gt with a bad motor, 150,000mi, New tires, hood and R fender replaced from deer, with power everything. Body and interior in nice shape too
Would anybody say 1250 is lowballing?

I would say thats a fair offer, I'd probably try for $1000 myself. With it being higher milage, needing an engine, and having been in an accident, its likely the car hasn't been taken car of really well and I doubt its going to gather much interest.
Well he took the offer, but I have yet to go pick it up. That will bring the total cost to 1400 but whatever, I want to go newer. Sounds like it had the same old oil problem the rest of the poorly maintained 1zz's had. hope the crank isnt toast, Id like to rebuild and start new with synthetic.

As much as I like older cars, I've been looking newer as well. Sadly though college tuition and a possible motorcycle are a little higher on the list hahah
Yup. I like my 5th gen, but I also like non-rusty cars
What did you major in?
I love my celica, but (I know this sounds kind of silly) I am a fan of a nice interior. The panels are all brittle and make noises and this toyota blue (same as my old corolla) is getting very old to look at.
Engineering. I've yet to get into particulars with certain fields, but I'll probably go with mechanical or possibly civil.
So, I hopped in my 87 Xtra Cab today, and drove 400 total miles on a whim...... and got the celica. After many a hill, I made it all the way back home and went to a friends house nearby. I went to leave and I made it around the first corner when the truck suddenly started to starve out for fuel and died. Wouldnt even putter. 400 miles was just too much for the new fuel pump.. Anyway, I was impressed nonetheless and luckily my friend had a truck....
But the car is nice and i am pretty sure the fuel pump went on my truck. Ill have to diagnose in the morning.
1500 dollars, 2 subway foot longs, and 8 hours later, I get two NON running Toyotas!! Love it!

I dont know if anyone cares, but I have successfully swapped a 2005 Vibe motor into my gt.
Things needed to be swapped:
Intake
Exhaust
Water pump metal line
REAL simple UNTIL..... I went to bolt up the axle carrier bearing.
Hmmmmm... It fits in the same place, but what the?!? There's no holes to bolt to!! So I had to pull the motor again, take it down to work and dial indicate it up on the milling machine, and Drill and tap my own holes. I just used standard bolts as I was a bit short on extra metric.
I have put on nearly 500 miles since the swap and have 180 psi cold on all cylinders. 40mpg aint bad either, eh eh...
Total Costs of swap:
Car-$1250
Car dolly rental-$90
Gas-80$
Motor(75,000miles)-$730
Oil, coolant, ATF, misc-$80
Black housing headlights and taillights-$150(not needed, but was good deal)
Labor- Free cuz I did it. lol
$2380 YEAH BABY!!! I think I did pretty good, for a $5000ish car!!
Another note, 1ZZ coil packs look the same, but if non celica coils are used, each will throw a check engine light, but operate ok.

I wonder how that motor is gonna handle the 7k redline?
It crossed my mind about the extra power it will make, but I guess I was more concerned about the oiling problem that was "fixed" after 2003... but she runs to redline like any other.
My old 92 ST is more fun to thrash than this car, cuz its a 5spd. So I think I will use that as my racer, and keep the new celi in nice condition.(DD)
I have an MS2 and an old 4age to try and satisfy my speed appetite
