Rear main seal job

What is the consensus out there regarding dropping the tranny vs pulling the engine/tranny assembly as a unit with an engine lift? It seems like a lot more labor in dropping the tranny from the engine vs pulling the whole assembly out. I've never dropped the tranny before but from what I've been reading in the shop manual, it's pretty labor intensive just to get to the rear main seal.

Well, any of those methods require alot of work.
Personally, I would rather unbolt the trans from the engine and pull the engine to to the seal. Then you won't have to mess with the axles.
