91 Celica - HELP!

as frustration has set in...

1991 Celica GT Hatchback, 2200.

typically, however not guaranteed, when car is going between 65 and 70 it will start to loose power after a distance. If we let off the gas it will eventually regain itself, but knock back down when it's back up to 65-70-mph. If it gets real bad, we pull over, turn it off, and restart it. However if it happens, it's next occurance will be sooner, and sooner ,etc.

There have been occasions where it will do it no matter what.

Have replaced :

Clutch
Fuel pump
Distributor cap, rotor, wires, plugs, coil wire
HO2 sensor on exhaust manifold

HAve had it in - they can't find it - no codes - no check engine light....

WE ARE GOING NUTS !

please help.

Have a Tranny shop check the shift solenoids in the valve body of the transmission. It's about a $500 job but worth it.

Note - I said we replaced the clutch - therefore there are no shift solenoids....

no we ruled that out since the car was getting fuel at any RPM.

Have you checked your fuel pressure? I see you've replaced the pump but maybe the filter is restricting fuel flow.

have not checked that, but if it were wouldn't this happen all the time rather than at random? Also if it were then why does it use more gas?

that was something I was thinking of, but in checking tailpipe output between idle and 3500 RPM it doesnt' miss much of anything. I feel a lot of exhaust and very hot. although there are some pops coming down in rpm....

I can always cut the converter out and put in a pipe. Was hoping for other ideas....

Check your alternator to see if its bad. When having an intermediate issue it tends to fall around electrical issues. Also something may be getting hot and causing issues.

I had an int. short to ground on my ign. mod cuz my harness was up against my egr tube.

The other issue can simply be its a 20yo car and $#!t happens.
