Have you replaced the blown hose with the proper hose yet?

Not yet, I have it on order. I did replace the mass air flow meter and now the car idles, idles high - around 1300 then drops to around 900 when in gear. I also found that I have oil in the distributor cap.

OK. Oil in the distributer can cause all kinds of idle and running problems as it fouls up the spark.
I believe there's an O ring at the base of the distributor where it meets the head. Replacement should stop the problem. Timing will have to be reset after the distributor is reinstalled.

Yea, I replaced the distributor cap. I am not a car person so all of this is new to me. I know it is very hard to get parts for this car. Is the oil ring easy to get and what is involved in replacing it - I have a haynes manual, but haven't seen anything on the oil ring, will look again. I like this car though and want to get it running right.

I'm not familiar with the 3sfe. But most of the earlier model Toyotas use an O Ring at the base of the distributor. It's a matter of removing 2 bolts, sliding out the distributor(note it's rotor postition) , remove the old O Ring, sliding the new one on, putting the distributor back, and then retiming the engine and locking down the distributor..

Anyway, hopefully, someone here with the same engine will confirm the distributor type.

Actually, there are four bolts holding the distributor on, after that I haven't a clue where the oil ring is. just have to look and hope for the best.

The distributor itself should only be held in by two bolts. This is an aftermarket distributor but you can see the o ring. I have also PMed you a diagram of a 5SFE distributor (it is essentially the same)
