Syntechtic Oil In Old Engine???

SYNTECHTIC OIL IN OLD ENGINE???

I have a 5sfe engine with 345,000kms on it. Would it be harmful to start using SYNTECHTIC OIL???

Thanks

It may uncover some leaks, which the 5sfe is prone to get over age, that could be said of most engines though.

Some gradually phase in synthetics by mixing with regular, I personally won't because of all that crap I read about oil seperation when I was digging on additives. I would recommend a flush before going syn as well as filter after. Also plan your first oil change after going syn earlier and changing filter again. That is of course, imho.

Switched to Mobil One synthetic blend high mileage formula on my 4AFE at 133,600 miles. Changed the oil again at 136,150. I'm at 136,500 now, not a drop has leaked out.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend a full synthetic, use one of the "high mileage" synthetic blends that many oil manufacturers have. Last time I changed my oil it came out clear, looked almost new. Another nice thing is the extended change interval, I think it's roughly 7,000 miles on synthetic. I still change mine every 3,000 because I'm neurotic though.

Syn oil create less build up and clean out old ones. So old engine may burn/leak oil. If the engine burn/leak too much, mix it with regular oil.
