2nd Generation AE86 shocks fit on '81 celica?

I've been told that the front shocks of the AE86 corrolla will fit on a second Gen celica? The mounting points look similar. I hate being a newb, but any and all info helps. Thanks guys!

IIRC correctly, yes. Honestly your best bet is to compare part numbers (for example, through KYB) or search through forums dedicated to those older celicas such as classic-celica.com

I'd try comparing parts numbers, but I can't find anyone that makes full front shocks for the A40, everything is cartridges. AE86 shock compatibility would open my suspension options up 1000 fold lol.

The AE86 strut is shorter than the '81 Celica strut (RA43?).
You can probably make it fit but you run the very real chance of it bottoming out on a big bump - which will bend the strut and totally ruin it.

Avoid the cheap cartridges but why not go for something like Koni or Bilstein cartridges?

I swear there is no aftermarket support for the second gen celica lol. I'm having a hard time finding koni or bilstein cartridges haha. but I'm thinking cartridges is my option. thanks guys.

Strange, in Australia we can get most of the consumable parts (shocks, points, gaskets, brakes, etc) even for my 1977 first gen and 1980 second gen.

Koni and Bilstein will normally make up any shock absorber that you care to specify if you are prepared to wait.

Koni has a standard shock listed at
http://www.koni.com/index.php?id=254
You can get it revalved for extra cost or if you talk to the supplier they might be able to find another standard one with the same casing but stiffer valving.
Read the web site for how they specify shock settings.

Bilstein has a rear shock listed at
http://www.heasmans.com.au/new_site2...stein%20B6.pdf
(RA43 is same shock as RA23 and RA55).

Check on the web for any other favourite shock manufacturers.
