So over the last few months I’ve been playing with an idea of having a Celica meet in central California. To my knowledge there has never been one in this area and it’s high time we had one, damnit. In fact, I’d like to make this the biggest Celica meet ever. I’ve got some grand visions of what it could be including:
*car show (best stock and modified for each generation of car and a best overall award)
*live music
*dyno competition (best of each generation and best overall)
*Professionally owned celicas on display (Rod Millen Celica, Turbonectics Celica, etc)
*food from vendors
*Sponsorships from local Toyota dealership etc.
*Raffle
*goody bags of course
*magazine and maybe even television coverage
Also. NO shenanigans! NO burnouts, NO racing, NO disturbingly loud music. It would be really nice to get the positive attention of Toyota to show them the deep appreciate we have for our cars and to perhaps clue them in to why they need to continue the car.
At this point I am shooting for an early August meet. The meet will be at the Earl Warren Showgrounds (
http://www.earlwarren.com/) in Santa Barbara (bout 2 hours north of LA). I don’t know what the lot will cost or how many cars it will hold but I’d like to see as many as 200 Celica’s at this meet people! They have a huge parking lot which will work quite well. To cover the cost of renting the lot (assuming we get a lot of people) admission will be like 10 bucks for people wanting to just chill and hang out and probably 20-25 to enter your car in the car show and/or the dyno challenge. Maybe a discount if you enter both or something. This all needs to be worked out. I have a few friends working with me on this and we might be able to get some good discounts on motels for those of you traveling far. Additionally, any profit will be donated to a charity so give back to your community and come to the meet!
At this point I need to gauge interest to see who would actually be down for this. I am posting this in all the celica message boards I know and would appreciate any responses or suggestions and let me know one of the following answers:
[1]Time to wash the birdcrap off my car! I'll be there!
[2]Sounds fun, I think I might be able to go
[3]No thanks. Im too lazy to drive that far and be a part of celica history.
Thanks,
