I am new to the forum game but am hoping i can get assistance getting my recently aquired 1995 toyo celica 1.8L 5 speed manual. I am looking for a motor because the one i have acctually blew a rod threw the block. already took it apart down to the block but can't find a replacement.wanted to know if anyone has advice of upgrading the motor or replacing it then build on it. want to know a better way to get more power out of this basic celica. greatly appreciate any info and advice.

They come with a 3S-GE engine, which is a pretty good engine. What are you planning on doing with your car?

Putting some power in the dead car

I am looking to put some power into it. i want to put a motor in there that will work with the trans i have and also one that will fit. i would like to put a turbo in it even though the motor did not come with one. I think this could be a pretty quick car. probably would like more torque but i want speed and the ability to get good jumps off the line. I still want to stay street legall to a extent.

japanese used engine importers.

Do a lot of research, also the transmission will not work. you currently have an A series engine, which comees mated to a C series manual transmission. The S series engine, such as that 3SGTE, will mate up to an S series trans (such as what came with the GT and GTS models with the 5SFE engine) or an E series transmission.

On celicatech there is a build thread with the help of dr. tweak that swapped a 3S into a 6th gen ST. There is a lot of good information there.

Your 1.8L is a 7A-FE. You can find it in Corolla. Shouldn't be too hard to find. It'll be a drop in.
Swapping to 3S-GTE will need lots of parts, time, work and money.
Do some research and see if that's what you really want to do.
