At Idle I turn on the A/C and it makes no noise, It blows cool air etc. As I raise the rpm it makes a very loud whirring sounds that increase intensity with the rpm. If I allow the compressor to run for 1- min or more it will make the noise even at idle. It is quite loud is this a bad ac compressor?

When I experience noises like that (that seem to come from belt areas), I remove the belt and spin the components by hand (alternator, AC compressor). It makes it easy to see which wobbles (indicating a bearing going out). I recently found the AC compressor bearing was going out on our Volvo 850 by using this method. HTH
