Exclamation Distributor I've found: will it fit in my baby?

So I've finally figured out that the main cause to my baby dying on me was a shitty distributor after months of hassle/expenses put onto my ignition system..it's all practically new now lol.

I have a 1990 Toyota Celica GT, 2.2L..it originally had a 2.0L but the motor was swapped to a 2.2L by one of the previous owners. According to my friend, it's the same 2.2L off of the GTS model, but I'm not certain. I only have receipts.

My issue right now:
it is very hard to find a used one, and very EXPENSIVE for a new one. I've called Part Source around my area, and they happen to have one in stock for a 1990 Toyota Celica 2.2L with a price of $291.15+tax..but apparently for an ST model.

Would it really make a difference? It IS for a 2.2L, that's all that matters, no?

Thanks,
Vana

When you say the dissy is bad, what's wrong with it? Maybe you don't need the whole thing just the ignition coil. Sorry don't know history of your car.
Is it internal coil or external? 1990 should be external. I believe ST one is internal so it won't even plug in.
BTW 1990 GT come stock with 2.2L 5S-FE, not 2.0L 3S-FE.

Oh since you're in Toronto, I maybe able to help. Or Klue may have one too.
BTW what error code did you get?

It is an external coil, and believe me, it is a shitty distributor.

I first replaced my igniter [ICM]
Next I replaced the distributor cap and rotor [my old cap was perfect, the rotor was shitty]
Saturday* I replaced the plugs, wires, and coil all on the same day, as well as had one of my mechanic's workers scan my baby with the computer. The main 3 codes that popped out were related to having a shitty distributor. He played around with some pins, but didn't fix much, it still won't start on me on hot/humid days. The heat is a big NONO for a bad distributor.

And my car had to have a 2.0L originally bc when I went along to change my igniter, I ordered one for a 2.2L and it didn't plug in at all..my friend who sold me the part was baffled by this deal, and went along to order the 2.0L's igniter, and it plugged in perfectly. I have read that some 90 GT's did come with 2.0L.

I went out to Partsource to take a look at it..didn't look like it would fit..it came with a set of wires, weird lol.*

Man the end of it looks similar, but i can't remember*.it was a couple of months ago when we pulled it out..

Main idea right now is to take it out and hope for my life that i can find a part number on it to search it up and see what it's exactly for cus that's the only way i can figure out which distributor i can get since I don't even know where my current motor exactly came from..all i know is that it's a japanese import motor, Toyota 2.2L 4 cyl..

So deadly, such a hassle. Car's not starting on me at alllllllll now that the weather's hot.

Is there any specific way to remove the distributor? Or just unbolt whatever you see that's keeping it in place..lol..

I really don't want to tow it to my mechanic to tear it apart..I would prefer finding the part number myself and pass it over through the phone bc we might not even be able to find my part in this fucked up country Canada that doesn't have jack all..and will just have to tow my car back home..and either scrap it or sell it as is/parts car..my worst nightmare

You can borrow mine and see if it works before you spend any money on new dissy.
Remove the cap and the wire. Only one bolt holding it down.

You should take a look at the ECU and see what it say on it. 5S-FE, 3S-FE or what ever.
Info you provide don't adds up. Japan import usually is 2.0L 3S-FE. 90 GT don't come with 2.0L 3S-FE in USA or Canada.
Its better to match the parts to the ECU because you don't even know what engine you have.

Where are you in Toronto?

I'm actually around the start of Durham region hah.

Though updates, my mechanic found one with the list price of $287..his price, $187..hoping it's the right one. I searched up NAPA thanks to one of the users off these forms and came across a couple in stock but with the choice of 5SFE productions TO 04/1990 or FROM 04/1990..I froze, lol so for now i'm hoping the one my mechanic found will work..if not i'll ask him to keep the part number of my distributor and we'll all work our way through that..

Anyway, so now it's just a matter of getting paid to tow my baby over to the shop. His shop's by Sheppard and Brimley just off Mccowan.

Thanks alot for the offer! I'll keep it posted.
