4th Generation 5sfe into st162

Hey guys new to the webpage, i have an 86 celica gts and the motor recently went, i picked up a 5sfe out of a 91 celica with everything besides the tranny for 50 bucks, just wanting to know if its a straight forward swap and if my s54 tranny thats on my 3sge now bolts right up to the new motor.

Well they are both S series transmissions so yes it will, although I dont believe you would have an S54 in a ST162, more so an earlier version (S51 or S53). The wiring harness will be different between the two engines and sadly since you're going from a 3SGE to a 5SFE you wont be able to just use the 3SGE electronics as most do when swapping from a 3SFE to a 5SFE.

thanks man, i got all the 5sfe computer and wiring came with the motor just wondering if it bolts in rather easily and if my tranny will bolt onto it, i kinda figured both s series so it would fit but i couldnt find a whole lot of people that swaps out a 3sge for a 5sfe, alot more on the 3sgte swap but i got a deal on the motor an i couldnt pass it up. but in the meantime as long as i got all the 5sfe electronics it should be a rather easy swap?

What's wrong with the 3S-GE? If the head is good, you can see if the GE head will bolt on the FE block. Compression will be lower but you can change the pistons to get it back. This way you don't need to use 5S-FE ECU. Too many people messed up wiring when doing swaps.
Other then that the 5S will drop in and bolt to tranny. Get the engine mounts if you can. I think you may need to rear one.
