1s or s1 bellhousing

Hello,

I'm currently doing research to connect a 3sge beams engine with a W57 gearbox. Apparently a 1s or s1 (don't know correct name) bellhousing allows me to do this but I still have a couple of questions after hours of researching on the internet.
- As far as I can find a 1s or s1 bellhousing comes from a toyota celica sa63 of st160..Can anyone confirm this or isn't the bellhousing from a celica?
- Does anyone by any chance have any experience/more info about using a 1s or s1 bellhousing to match the W57 to the 3sge beams?
- Anyone has, or knows where, one of these bellhousings is for sale?

Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm a bit stuck at the moment

Cheers,

Bozu

Hi Bozu,

Sounds like you want to put the 3S-GE engine into a rear wheel drive car.

All S series engines had the same engine to bellhousing bolt pattern.
So, any bellhousing from an S series engine can be bolted to any other S series engine.
The Corona ST140 (with 1S engine), Corona ST141 (with 2S engine), Celica SA60 (with 1S engine), Celica SA63 (with 2S engine) and Caldina (with 3S-GE engine and 6 speed manual gearbox) are all RWD and have bellhousings that can be bolted to a 3S-GE.
Those bellhousings will all bolt W55/56/57/58 gearboxes - the main difference between them are the ratios.
The bellhousings and gearboxes from front wheel drive cars (eg St160) are not suitable for a RWD car.

If you are putting the 3S-GE into a FWD car then you will need a gearbox from a FWD car (eg Celica ST160, ST180, ST200).

Which car are you putting the 3S-GE engine into?

Hi Stepho,

Thank you for your reply!

I'm putting the 3sge in a RWD car, my AE86, which already has a W57 in it. I found a bellhousing from a SA63 so I'm gonna use that in combination with the 3sge starter motor. Only thing I have to sort out now is the clutch because apparantly when coupling a W57 to 3sge the spigot shaft is to short. So either I think I need a spacer or a double spigot bearing, do you have experience with this?

Wow, a 3S-GE in an AE86 will fly!

I don't know which spigot shaft to use.
The W55/56/57/58 gearboxes are interchangeable and most internal parts are interchangeable, so maybe another gearbox will have a longer spigot. Maybe you can swap the flywheel+clutch for a 1S flywheel+clutch but I don't know if the 1S flywheel even bolts up to the 3S-GE crank. Sorry that I can't help any more than that.

Anyone else knows what startermotor, clutch and flywheel to use in combination with a 1S/2S bellhousing, w5* box and 3sge blacktop beams motor?
