gen 7 High RPMs on Highway

Hello, I have a 2000 GT with over 120K miles on it.
The car works perfect, just a minor issue with O2 Sensor that I am going to replace soon
My question is, when I'm on the highway going around 70 to 90 miles on fifth gear, her RPMs are about 4K to 5K, is that normal??
Is there a way to reduce them??
Thanks

90 for prolonged periods?! jeez.

Anyway, that sounds about right, they're closely geared and usually sit around 3k rpm or so at 55-60, so 4k at 75 sounds about right to me in the highest gear. Keep in mind that cars are usually designed to get optimal gas mileage around 55-60mph and are geared accordingly.

The GTS transmission, although a 6 speed is just geared slightly closer so not much improvement would be seen.

90 but not for long just when there is no cops around, even though I have taken her in 4 hour drives and she works fantastic.
The reason I asked is because my girlfriend has a 2003 corolla, and if I'm not mistaken it has the same engine as the celica (1zz), and at 70 miles it sits around 3K rpm

normal, short gears and s somewhat short differential give better acceleration but higher rpm's while cruising at highway speeds. It's fine for the engine to hang around 3-4K rpm for hours at a time btw. corolla has wider taller gears for better fuel economy.

The corolla is automatic and the celica is manual.
So the high RPM are ok on the celica.
Ok so I will not worry then, although it feels like the corolla has higher acceleration but maybe it is just because Im not changing gears

clean the mass airflow sensor in the Celica and if it's over 90K miles change the spark plugs as well.
