Is my engine original?

Hi,
I bought a 1992 GT this spring and the more I think about it the more I feel like this car got a different engine put in at some point. I know the 1992 model year 5SFE was revised a little to get 5 more hp but I'm wondering if that engine still had the red lettering on the valve cover and intake manifold ("Toyota 2200 16 Valve" on the VC and "EFI" on the IM) as opposed to just the black (Toyota logo and "2200" on the IM and "16 Valve" on the VC)? At junkyards I see 92's that still have the engine with the red lettering. I'm wondering then if any of you with a 92 have the engine with the black lettering or if you know if my engine would be original to my car or not. Thanks, and I'm sorry if this is a stupid question.

Can't you check if the vin # on the block matches the car?

Go to a smog shop and ask them to check their book and your VIN/ block number. it will say which engine is in it and it its original or swap and can be excepted. Or you can do yourself, smog shop have the books on hand though and are instant about it because they do it everyday.

Thanks, I do know me engine serial number (5S-0570028) but I'm unsure of how to get the production date or any other info from that number. @PEN, how would I do it myself?

I believe PA has a similar emissions system as MD, and if thats the case they wouldn't have the kind of info thats available in California. Cali has the info due to their regulations on only swapping newer engines rather than older ones (as well as their hundreds of other regulations). No other state has anything close to California's regulations.

I have an early production date 1992 GT, that does have the REV 2 5SFE, which has the 2200 on the intake manifold, 16 Valve on the valve cover, and the black square spark plug wire boots on the valve cover.

Ah ok thanks Rob, much appreciated! When I bought the car there was absolutely no kind of documentation or service records so that's something I've always wondered.
