Plan to restore celica

I was wondering if you guys could give me some pointers on restoring celica. My 84 celica gt has been sitting in my parent's garage for 4 years now. I stopped driving it when the fuel pump went out. I forget why I didn't fix it right away, but it didn't matter since I moved to the east coast right after that. Anyway, that car would be a great project to have here during the winter.

The plan so far is to fly back to california, work on it for a week, and drive it back to virginia....without it breaking down along the way.
So far, these are on the agenda:
  • change all the fluids
  • tune up,
  • buy a new fuel pump and filter
  • clean out the gas tank since there was at least a quarter tank of gas in it.
  • change all tires
  • pretty sure it needed an alignment too
  • check hoses for leakage after its (hopefully) running again

There's another list of things to do but those are more for comfort during the drive ie. new cd player, fix power window buttons, recharge ac, but this list is just to get it on the road again.
Am I missing anything else to do? Also, if anyone has any advice on a good route for driving cross country during december, that would be helpful also. Constructive criticism of this semi-impossible project is encouraged.

I would change all hoses, belts and run some seafoam thru the fuel system.

The good thing it the 22re thats in that car should be damn near bulletproof. You may wanna flush out the cooling system as well. I know the cooling system in my 83 had a bunch of junk in it then we freshened up the motor. This may take filling and draining the system quite a few times. Other than that it should be good.

You should make it fine when you do that.
I just drove my 85 from La to san fran and i blew my valve gasket due to high oil pressure and still froze it another 300 miles till i got home just fine. Those 22re's will run forever
