Unhappy Engine burns oil

My 1996 celica burns oil. I have already had the compression checked (turned out perfect) and air filter replaced. No leaks as far as I can see, but the engine uses about 1.5 liter oil of in 2000 km. Since I bought the car I use cheap 10W40 (half synth), because it is not staying in anyway.

Does somebody can give me any clues where to look next? Since I have a cat I suspect the oil usage will not be visable at the exhaust. I has to go somewhere, doesn't it?

well, if you were burning that much oil, you would know it on the plugs. i doubt they would fire. and with compression being good...you could try a leakdown test. just look the engine over really well from the top and bottom. im sure you will find a leak somewhere. you would see the blue smoke coming from the exhaust cat or not.

Forgot to mention: Checked the plugs already. Replaced them too, but makes no difference.

Checked beneath the motor room already, but no oil to be detected. My bother drove behind me checking for smoke but that is also not the case...

Anything more I could check?

Valve seals, piston rings, um... oil pan drain plug gasket? Do you notice a puddle beneath your car after you park?

No puddle... Oil drain plug would be ok then, I assume. The dealer would have fixed this I suppose when the changed the oil last time.

Since checking the valve seals involves taking the engine apart, this would be the last thing to check. If I would be the piston rings wouldn't you have a lousy compression?

Hm, I guess you're right. Bad valve seals generally just emit a puff of blue smoke on startup. It's possible that your piston rings are just slightly worn, so your compression is fairly normal, but over the course of hundreds of miles you burn a quart or so of oil (which is fairly normal on high mileage cars). How many miles does your car have on it?

It has about 140.000 KM, which is about 87.000 miles...

I came across someone who has the same problem in the Netherlands, maybe some usefull idea may come up there (nothing so far).

It is dutch, but anyways:
