Just bought a 91 GTS, need help with tire size

I just bought a sweet old 91 Celica GTS. It only has 120k on the odo, and it purrs like a kitten. Added a K&N, new windshield, tail lights, and re-did the starter, as well as the tie-rod ends and brakes. I also had it aligned and rotated and balanced the tires. Not bad in 2 weeks for a lazy ass

I also picked up some Enkei EM5 rims that are 16x7. Can anyone recommend a decent tire size that will keep roughly the same diameter as stock?

Thanks in advance, this is my first toyota car after years of driving toyota pickups and I'm stoked.

Well estimating using a stock tire size of about 195/55/15 as the stock size, going to 205/45/16 would be very close. The new overall diameter would change by only a tenth of an inch and would make your speedo off by approx .5 mph at 60.

I'm running 215/45/17, so there is more of a discrepancy for me.

Right on, thanks a lot Rob! You know your Celicas, every time I search the forum you always have a good post in the threads I read, ha ha.

I tried using the miata calculator, but my laptop runs on unleaded and I can't seem to get it working.

Most of the 205/45's I have been looking at are light truck tires. Do you think that will affect handling? I'm not too worried because I live in Saskatchewan and all the driving here is flat and straight, lol.

No problem man. Do you have any other web browsers installed? That java program can cause some hiccups depending on your browser, I've had issues with it in the past. I've never had a problem with using it in Chrome.

As for the tires, have any brand/model names?

The GT-S came with 215/50/15 (Same as factory all-trac) which is not the easiest to find tires in (Kumho used to makes some). My 90 GT-S had 215/50/15's from the factory and I used to run 16" rims on it wrapped in 215/45/16 which have a negligible difference vs stock - .1 inches or so.

Your stock tire size should be on a sticker in your glove box. You can plug that into the Mita site calc and play with it.
215 45/16 or 225 45/16 should work.
Either will be very close. Whether you can fit those sizes on your rims probably depends on the specific tire you get. I never had a problem getting Khumos and Falken 225s to fit. Beyond that I can't tell you.
