First off, I'd like to say that I am a very proud owner of an Integra GSR and yes, I am aware this is a Toyota only forum but I need some information.
My brother is looking to buy a new car and he has narrowed it down to two cars. The '04 GT-S and '04 RSX-S. Being that I own a Honda and have nothing but good things to say about them, I feel that he should get the RSX-S but that's obviously bias. I wanted the opinions of (proud?) Celica owners, particulary GT-S owners. Just basically what are the thoughts about this car (5th Gen GT-S), problems with the car, potential, reliability, etc. Basically any information will be greatly appreciated.
Also, how does it compare to the RSX-S? RSX-S: 2.0L 4 cylinder, 16 valve, DOHC i-VTEC, 200hp @ 7400rpm and 142lbs-ft @ 6000.
GT-S: 180hp? That's about all I know.
***Edit*** Both have a 6-speed manual
Please, be fair. I know most people here will say go with the GT-S and that's fine but what I want to know is why? What makes a GT-S better, if anything?
I like the look of the GT-S better, but I think the Acura is a better buy, if u can afford it. Its more expensive (I believe) but it is better, performance and luxury wise.
Performance wise they are both there, eventhough the Celica has only 180 HP but is far more lighter than the RSX-S so they would be on par.
Not long ago, someone (dont remember if it was this forum or the Team Celica forum) wrote down all the numbers on the two cars doing a 1/4 mile race, both stock conditions, the RSX would win by something really dumb... something like 0.023 secs.
The conclusion was that it all came down to personnal choice but cars are the same.

I know that the RSX weighs more than the Celica but I don't think it's by that much. The RSX's curb weight is 2767 lbs but I don't how much the Celica weighs.
I've test driven both and they actually do seem about equal performance wise. Although the RSX-S did seem to accelerate quicker than the GT-S but that's of course using the "butt dyno."
Other than that, between the RSX and a GT-S. I'd go with a GT-S and wouldn't think twice. Plus a done up celica gets way more attention than an RSX. The RSX is on the boring side... you have to admit! And the cockpit in the celica is amazing. Everything's in the right place! I love it.
i will go GT-S even though the type s has more power and luxury
I just simply love the interior [ jet fighter style] heheheh
I personally think that the GT-S is more aerodynamic than the Type S

i think that they both have potentials when it comes to racing..but i think that the gt-s is easier to make it fast than a type s with just a few bolt ons....i think one guy in everythingcelica.com reached 13's with just a few bolt ons....full interior and drag radials....haven't seen any type s do that....so i would go for the gt-s..

It will either be the Type S or GT-S; it won't be the RSX or GT. There is not doubt that the interior of the GT-S is nice and in my opinion, it's nicer than the RSX's interior.
What are some common problems with 7 gen Celica's? I know that the RSX had some issues with the 2nd gear grinding on the 6-speed. Anything like this happen with the Celica's?
As long as he doesn't get one of those new ricey lookin GT-S's that Toyota is putting out, the GT-S would be cool.
Personally I would go with the RSX-S, even though I am a severe Toyota fanatic. I just dont feel that toyota is up to par in the performance department these days. I don't really care for FWD, but the Type-S is a pretty nice car in general. Both are 4cyl, FWD, w/ vtec / vvti... it should be a pretty close match in performance. I think the RSX has a little more style to it personally.
