replace driver side transmission oil seal...remove driveaxle?

i have to replace the driver side transmission oil seal. do i have to remove the driveaxle from the knuckle, or can i just disconnect the control arm, pull the knuckle to drag the shaft out a little bit from the tranny and get to the seal?

thanks!

Popping the axle from the trans is usually the hardest part. I dont see any way where you would be able to swing the hub out far enough to remove the axle from the transmission with the axle still in the hub. Also, the extra weight would be trying to push the axle back into the transmission.
