Aftermarket stereo help needed

Ive got a 2000 Celica GTS, im trying to put my aftermarket stereo in it and im having some major issues...

First off, the wiring harness i bought looked NOTHING like the plug that i pulled out of the stock stereo. Talked to a few people and they said my best bet would be to just splice the wiring from the aftermarket harness into the wiring already on the car.

Did that... My stereo turns on, i get some sound but its choppy, crackly and it makes popping noises, and just randomly the sound drops completely. I made sure all the splicing was snug together so it cant be a broken connection.

Is there an easier way to do this? I know tomorrow im going to re-attach the stock plug that was there in the first place for the time being until i can figure this crap out..

If anyone could give me some diagrams or lists of the wiring that would be amazing..

The stereo i have is a Dual XD1222 if that helps any..

Thats the diagram i was following in the first place. Problem is there isnt a pink or a light green wire anywhere on my car, theres also 2 reds and 2 blacks. I kinda just guessed and checked with those after i was 100% sure the constants and the ground were correct, which they were. I think i just have some of the speakers in the wrong places. But i did a bit more research and found out the GTS has an external amp system which complicates things for me..

So im just going to re-splice the factory harness and keep the stock stereo..

I do appreciate your reply though, thank you

do you have the factory premium sound? it's pretty hard to wire it to sound right with the factory amp. Either install an aftermarket amp or bypass the factory unit.

I'd definately bypass the OEM amp and install an aftermarket amp. Makes things so much easier. My brother in law has a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus and it has the same problem. The built in amp messes the whole thing up.

yeah thats probably a better idea, but I still need to splice in the wiring for the stereo and that wont be easy considering my factory wires dony match any diagram ive looked at online. mine has 2 reds, 2 blacks, 2 browns and no pink or light green wires. so I have no idea what goes where.
