I just switched from a honda to my 92 celica gt. I am looking to upgrade it to take it to autocross events for fun. It is my daily driver so im not lookin to do anything to crazy to it but if anyone knows what upgrades work and are effective on this model i would really appreciate it. It has already an air intake and custom exhaust with a stock header. I am not sure what my engine is. It sais 2200 on it if that means anything. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!!!
You may want to be careful with your modifications, autocross classes can be extremely varied, and a simple modification can sometimes take into a much higher class where any possibility of competition can be eliminated.
However, in my opinion, the most cost effective, especially for autocross, would be a good set of tires, good brakes, and a better suspension set up.
You have a 5SFE.
Robs right, you're best starting with those improvements. You can get larger front brakes from a 92/93 Celica, and rear discs from the same.
There's not a whole lot you can do for the engine without spending hundreds of dollars. If you wanted more power your best bet is to either get a 92 ^ 5SFE [it has a knock sensor, yours doesn't] and turbo it or swap to a 3SGTE.

Well he listed his as being a 92, and if the 2200 is on a plate on the intake manifold, then he definitely would have the rev. 2 5SFE, which would have the knock sensor and the upgrades brakes as well as a few other small aesthetic things (like fog lights on the GT model as an example or the different tail lights)
Ya ..im pretty sure its the 5sfe. The car already has the exhaust system minus the headers. It also came with lowering springs. Im thinking right now just an aftermarket header to go with the exhaust and then i think i should just replace the struts too when i get those springs in. Any certain brand for the header or struts i should use?
Remember that an aftermarket header will eliminate your catalytic converter so that could possibly be an issue with your inspections. Mine is from megan racing if I remember correctly, and I am happy with it.
The springs are M2 performance lowering springs. Now the megan header sais its only for the gt model 2000 and up. Im asssuming then it wouldnt work on my 92?

No, it's a totally different engine.
Pick up a manifold from a 98? -02 Camry 5SFE. It's a "header" with a cat.
And it's stock quality.
The flange won't line right up with your exhaust though, you'll have to get that changed. But you'll have no questions at inspection time.

Yup, you're right.
For some reason I was thinking he had a 91. Not sure why.

Guys on my honda project(first car) my inspections usually cost me between 30 and 60 bucks anyways..unofficialy of course . so thats not a huge concern to me. Just would really like to find something that gives my car those few extra horses lol Also looking to stay under $150 ish and the only ones ive found are one from M2 performance and one from racing power. Any thoughts on these or others i should look at?
