I was just wondering if anyone knew if such a thing exists for this motor, and if so, where I can get one. Im trying to get some info before I start rebuilding a 5S-FE to support a turbo setup, or to go with a 3S-GTE. Although Id prefer the swap, its going to cost a lot of money from what I have priced out so far, and dont even know if thats for everything. So if anyone knows of a stroker kit, crankshaft, and valves(with valvesprings), please let me know. Thanx
The 5S is already a stoker engine from the 3S.
You can simply turbo the 5S. Just get metal head gasket from a Camry. You can even put the 3S-GTE head on it to make a 2.2L 5S-GTE, lots of torque and lots of fun
Even if you build your 5sfe to handle turbo, it will never have the potential of a 3sgte. Then again, I'm assuming you'll never try and push it to those limits.
If you're looking for information though, you'd be better of going to an mr2 board. Theres people out there with 5sfte mr2's pushing around 500 hp.
EDIT: The amount of money you spend on your 5sfe will probably equal the amount or cost more than that of a 3sgte swap.
Thanx for the info. The problem with dropping the 3S-GTE is all the customizing needed to make it fit and run properly. With the 5S-FE, the motor drops right in, no driveshaft problems, no ECU problems, and everything works a lot simpler. The turbo isnt going on right away, Im just looking at getting pistons and rods, valves, bearings, bushings, etc, so that it will be able to support the turbo once I install it. Eventually I will be looking into a crank. Right now, my priority is getting the parts to rebuild the motor so it can run, and save time when installing the turbo. The motor is already out of the car, so it makes the rebuild that much simpler.
Thanx again for the help, any other comments/knowledge is greatly appreciated.
Im from mississ as well. I have a 90 GT-S and if you do decide to go ahead with that swap let me know. If i can scrape the money together I would probably be interested in buying ur old 5fse and many other parts you won't need.
Also, do u know any good Custom paint/body shops/performance exhaust places around?

Not to sure where you have been researching, but the 3SGTE is about as drop in as it gets when it comes to motor swaps. There are no axel, ECU problems. Its a very straight forward swap.
Think about this way, the 5s was intended to be an economical engine, where as the 3s was all power. Which platform do you think is best.
My suggestion, if you want to stroke something, stroke the 3s with your 5s crank, some custom rods, etc.

The only economic part of the 5S is the FE head. You can build a 5S-GTE by using 3S-GTE top. You'll get a stroker 2.2L high torque monster You don't really need high boost, you'll have enough torque to suprise many. I'm not talking empty, there was a 5S-GTE AE92 Sedan in Toronto. The guy who build it is Toyota mechanic and 3S heads are bolt-on to 5S blocks. Some year may have different water passage, that even happen between 5S blocks.
I don't know if the 3S have same mount as the 5S.
Dont confuse your 5s blocks though. The newer 5s blocks from the camry's are the beasts. They have the highest nickel content, the forged pistons, and are just overall a much better block then the early 5s blocks.
Yea I think the guy spin on 3 gear with the 5S-GTE
It depends on what you want in the end: just turbo the 5S or big power later. The 5S-GTE conversion will be cheaper then a turbo kit if you can find a 3S-GTE top.
It not right or wrong, just what one want to do
I'm staying NA with my GTS. If I want turbo, I'll just get the AllTrac

Personally, 2.0 liters is plenty
sorry you cant fit a newer 5s-fe 94 and up with out machining the water jackets to fit the 3s-gte head...
