Gen5 My car stocked on 4th Gear

hey all,

other day I was on 2nd gear driving and once road opened clear, I kind of pushed on it when I attempt to switch to 3rd, I missed and slapped it into 4th gear. I slowed down to attempt downshifting into 3rd, there wasn't any gear. I pulled over I noticed I could not go to neutral nor switch to any other gears.
The car runs but only when clutch is pressed and once lifting up feet it dies.

anyone knows what that could be? never seen that happen before plenty of time people missed gears
Now its just stocked on 4th gear.

***** this car was a swapped from a 5sfe GTS to 3sgte motor *****

thanks

Shift linkage could have broken or come loose?

Look to see if both linkages are still connected at the base of the shifter and check where they connect to the trans

I agree. It is probably in the linkage. First place I would check.

can i check for loosen linkage inside the car or will i have to put it on a lift?
also, it is connected to the shifter, so its not the shifter.

thanks

You can see it from the top. Look on top of the transmission, its on the backside towards the firewall, essentially straight down from intake tube that leads to your throttle body.

thanks again,
This coming spring I will be doing a turbo upgrade which will require a better tranny such as a v6 camry or LSD mr2 tranny. Do you think I should just replace it now? and if so, what year range from the v6 Camry will fit?

thanks
