vibration issues when accelerating

Car shakes real bad when it turns over and then at different speeds. 25-30 it'll shake more, along with 45-50 and around 70 mph.

Mechanic friend says motor mounts which would make since cause the one thats visible has cracks in the rubber.

But the shop my father takes the car into says it needs a new drive shaft.

Any opinions would be greatly appericated

Have you jacked up the car yourself and looked at the axles and mounts?

the lower mount i could see looked fine, the one on top (the only other one i could see was splitting in the rubber). Maybe i can get my lazy father to start caring about his car again and get this fixed.

Worn motor mounts can cause a lot of problems right? I mean excessive vibration cant be good.

Yes they can cause vibration, I had a Camry that the PO had hit something with right on the engine mount that runs front to back on the earlier Camrys. The engine mounts that were on it were pushed out of alignment and the front one was broken, but I could hardly tell from looking at it that the crossmember was pushed up.

With the damaged parts, the car vibrated terribly at idle and at certain rpm's too. After replacing the broken mounts and bent crossmember, it ran like a dream.

Mine vibrated terribly at all times until I replaced all four mounts. I highly recommend buying OEM mounts if you plan to hold on to the car for any length of time. The two upper mounts (left and right) are only really available through Toyota, but the lower mounts are available at local parts stores, but those break down very quickly, especially if it has a manual trans. I replace all four less than 20k miles ago and the front and rear mounts are completely shot.

posted in the wrong forum. This is the camry im talking about. But how quickly do the cheap mounts go out? My father isn't looking to throw a lot of money at the car

Doesn't matter, basically the same layout. Throw in some cheap ones and see how long they last. Probably be fine since they're not going into a race car.
