94 Celica GT engine swap 4AGE?

I have a 94 Celica GT with a stock 2.2L 5s-fe engine/5 speed trans. The engine totally locked up on me two days ago and my tranny has been great except for the sincronizers in third are off a little (only grinds a little down shifting to third gear). I really don't need or want a turbo motor, and I plan on daily driving it when it's running again. just looking for a strong, reliable, and occasionally fast. But generally stock with the exception of minor bolt ons.

I came across a 4AGE (blacktop) with 6 speed trans, harness, &ecu.

Q:
1- is this a doable swap?
2- how dificult is the swap? (I.E. motor/trans mount locations, axles ect???)
3- any other/better/easier suggestions?

It is doable, but I wouldn't recommend it. Although the blacktop numbers seem promising, the 20v 4AGE have a record of putting out significantly lower numbers on the dyno, especially the silvertop, but the blacktop too. You could realistically expect maybe 20 more horsepower but, much less torque, which for the heavier Celica, would be rather disappointing.

The mount locations are the same, except the right side engine mount is in a different location so one would have to fabbed up. Also, axles are different and has a completely different ECU and wiring harness.

If you are primarily looking for a strong, reliable engine, I would stick to the S series engine which has a proven record. Personally, I would recommend finding either another 5SFE, or maybe sourcing a 3SGE?

Thanks Rob.
I am kinda new to the whole Toyota thing, so I totally appreciate any and all input @ this time. I just want my celica back on the road. tired of driving the premium fuel drinking Cadillac. lol. I wonder why it is that the 5s-fe is so much more expensive than the other 4cyl engines of that era? maybe having change of heart and contemplating a 3sgte? we'll see I guess. Thanks again for your helpful input Rob!

They can be tricky to find because when the yards get them they are usually in terrible shape so the nicer engines go for a premium. We had to replace one in a Camry and it was over 700 for an engine with 100k on it. Could not find a better deal, its just an engine in high demand.
