Post 2zz-fe questions

What are the differences between lotus and celica/corolla xrs 2zz-fe. I know that exige s comes with supercharged version. I heard that the heads on lotus are worked over by yamaha and intakes are dif from yotas. Any technical input and parts interchange/ upgrade possibilities are welcome.
thanks in advance,
-V-

FYI, the engine codes are:

2ZZ-GE
1ZZ-FE

Regarding the 2ZZ-GE in Lotus Elise versus the Corolla XRS/Celica GTS 2ZZ-GE, what you heard is completely incorrect. The engine internals and all mechanical parts are identical in all versions of 2ZZ-GE (hence the identical part numbers and engine code). Nothing is different at all. Yamaha was involved in the development of the entire engine. Not just the head. Yamaha did not develop the head since the Yamaha logo is stamped on the side of my engine "block". Not the head.

The only difference lies in the ECU tuning, which out of the factory was different in the Lotus Elise where Lotus decided to alter how the torque curve looks over the rev range. The second thing is Lotus Elise has a free flowing exhaust out of the factory, which actually results in loss of power if replaced with an aftermarket exhaust. Combined together, both of these yield a small horsepower gain of 10 horsepower over the other versions.

Since both engines are zz series does that mean I can use the head off 2zz on 1zz block using 2zz electronics? Also are 3zz and 4zz motors worth messing with? Have access to 2zz with hole in the block....also will 1zz accesories work on 2zz block and vice versa?

Actually that has come up many times in the past years (since people think Honda B-series and K-Series engines) and the confirmed answer is "no". The 2ZZ-GE and 1ZZ-FE are truly different engines. 2ZZ-GE shares nothing as it was bespoke and developed from the ground up in collaboration with Yamaha. So nothing is swappable between the two engines.

Regarding aftermarket parts, yes exhaust from the XRS/GTS can be swapped into a respective 1ZZ car. I don't believe the cold air intake can work on 1ZZ since the throttle body diameter of the 2ZZ-GE is much bigger, but I would not be surprised if someone made it work.

if you have an aftermarket intake for a 1ZZ, it can work on the 2ZZ. you just have to find a coupler that reduces the diameter
