angry at my distributor

Hello

i bought a 93 celica convertible with 5sfe engine. a week after i bought it the distributor failed... ok i bought another one. now today the NEW one failed and i had to use the one from my wifes camry to get home ( hope she doesnt find out :P ).
Are these distributors weak or problematic ?
I want to change it to a distributorless system now, has anybody done this, either a oem system or aftermarket. if so can you send me a link or anything to help me out on instalation procedures, price, ect.
thanks

You probably bought an aftermarket distributor, they don't tend to be as good as Toyota ones, which are usually pretty reliable.
Do you have any kind of warranty on the dist?
And what failed, the dist or the coil inside the dist?

Not a lot you can do as far as a distributorless system, the only 5SFEs that came without are the 97 ^ Camrys, and they're OBDII so it would take a lot of work/money to make that work on your car.
Your cam and crank sensors are inside the dist so it's not easy to get rid of it.

yeah i boght it from jdm. i dont know what failed yet, when i have some time to check it i will let you know. but i do store my car in a warm garage, maybe its the humidity that killed it ? because ive had many toyotas in my life (also mazda, vw) and never had any problems with the distributor.
the only other car that gave me distributor problems was a 20 year old dodge colt...lol

The ignition system - including distributors - on the early S-series (3S-FE) engines were not very robust, I changed the coil as well as the distributor itself, when the inner oil seal failed. but I thought the distributor itself had gotten better by the time the 5S-FE came around.
